First, in 1985, we established Welspun Winilon Mills in Palghar. We had a little texturizing facility between Mumbai and Gujarat in a quiet little town. Following a successful initial public offering (IPO) in 1991, Welspun Polyester India Limited changed its name to Welspun India Limited. We had humble beginnings that expanded at a lightning rate. Terry towels have been manufactured in Vapi, Gujarat, since 1993. Towels of such reputed quality were supposedly thought impossible to produce anywhere other than Turkey. Welspun USA was founded in 2000 and is 100% owned by Welspun Global Brands Limited. Welspun set its sights on the American market with headquarters in New York City for sales, design, and marketing, as well as a distribution center in Ohio.

Welspun USA, a conventional distribution network, was also founded in Ohio, a place where cities have historically experienced a renaissance. Welspun City was officially opened in 2004 in the town of Anjar in the Kutch region. On its 2,500 acres, you'll find one of the world's biggest diameter SAW pipes mills and Asia's largest home textile manufacturing. A massive earthquake hit this area in 2001. Like the mythical bird from which it takes its name, this area was once a desolate wasteland but is now a bustling municipality that provides jobs for twenty thousand people.
