Vinyl Chemicals (I), a public limited company that was established in 1986, is in the business of producing vinyl acetate monomers (VAM). It was marketed by the Parekh group, a well-known organisation renowned for manufacturing and selling the Fevicol brand of adhesives, synthetic resins, binders, surfactants, and pigments, among other things, and SICOM, which is an entity owned by the Government of Maharashtra. Uhde Gmbh developed the technique required for producing vinyl acetate monomer in Germany, a subsidiary of Hoechst.

In addition to contributing technological know-how, the German collaborator offered basic technical services and educated employees to assist with assembly and start-up procedures.

This is the first business that has successfully manufactured VAM by directly extracting ethylene from petrochemicals. VAM is a versatile petrochemical that produces various materials, including polyvinyl acetate, polyvinyl alcohol, ethylene vinyl acetate copolymers, vinyl acrylic co-polymers, acrylic fibres, and more. In May of 1999, the business increased its production capacity for VAM to 16400 TPA with the assistance of real technical work done by Krupp Uhde Gmbh Germany. The firm began working on a debottlenecking expansion proposal in the 2000–2001 fiscal year, and it was finally finished in the 2001–2002 fiscal year. The plan called for increasing production capacity to 24500 TPA. February of 2002 saw the installation and commissioning of the oxygen/nitrogen system.
