Usha Martin Ltd is the world's biggest maker of wire rope and a top producer of specialty steel. The business produces steel wire ropes and cables using its captive material resources, including iron ore and coal. They have plants in Ranchi, Jamshedpur, Barajamda in Jharkhand; Bangalore, Karnataka; Hoshiarpur, Punjab; and Agra, Uttar Pradesh. Their factories are also located in Thailand, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Dubai, among other places. The firm has three different production lines it uses to fulfill orders. These lines focus on making steel wire ropes, among other products.

Products such as steel wire rods, rolled products, billets, pig iron, and others are produced by the steel division. Wire and wire ropes have steel wires, strands, wire ropes, a bright cord bar, and associated hardware. Another firm branch makes jelly-filled telecommunication cables and wire drawing and accompanying machinery. Established in 1986 under the name Usha Beltron Ltd., Usha Martin Ltd.

Usha Martin Industries Ltd. and the Bihar State Electronic Development Corporation founded the firm in partnership. With the help of German firm AEG Kabel, the business produced jelly-filled telephone cables. Usha Martin Europe Ltd was founded in 1994 as a subsidiary of the firm in a joint venture with the Exim Bank of India to construct a global marketing and distribution infrastructure for wire rope exports. In 1995, the business inaugurated a small blast furnace in Jamshedpur to save costs and boost output. Improved output was the impetus for 1996 commissioning of a brand-new, state-of-the-art Wire Rod Mill in Jamshedpur, which could create coils of greater weight. On October 1, 1997, the firm amalgamated with Usha Martin Industries Ltd.

One equity share was issued to Usha Martin Industries Ltd stockholders for every three shares of Usha Martin Industries Ltd stock they owned. Its information technology branch, known as Usha Martin Infotech Ltd., was spun out as a separate company in 2000. The business formed UM Cables Ltd as an owned subsidiary to build a new JFTC and OFC facility in the Silvassa area.

Throughout the year, they put into operation a 25 MW thermal power plant in Jamshedpur for internal use. In the year, the firm purchased a controlling interest in Usha Siam Steel Industries Public Ltd Company in Bangkok, which makes wire ropes. In addition, they have bought 80% of Brunton Shaw Ltd. UK from Carclo Group. In 2001, the business established a wire rope distribution center in Singapore by establishing a wholly-owned subsidiary, Usha Martin Singapore (Pty) Ltd. To reach their goal of 350000 TPA, they also had a second SMS installed in Jamshedpur.

In 2003, the firm sold its Rolling Mill Division in Agra to concentrate on its core competencies. Likewise, Usha Martin International Ltd and Gustav Wolf of West Germany established a joint venture called Brunton Wolf Wire Ropes FZ Co. in the Middle Eastern city of Dubai, with a yearly output target of 6,000 metric tons. With an effective date of May 1, 2003, Usha Beltron Ltd is now known as Usha Martin Ltd. In the fiscal year 2003–2004, the parent business bought out Export-Import Bank of India's remaining ownership stake in the subsidiary Usha Martin International Ltd.
