Shalimar Paints Ltd. is a company primarily incorporated in 1902 by British businesspeople under the name Shalimar Paint Colour & Varnish Company. Its primary purpose was to take over the operations of another company known as 'The Shalimar Works,' which is located in Bengal and produces paints, colors, and varnish from its factory in Shalimar and Goabaria. In order to meet the need for the 2,000 metric tonnes per year of packaging coatings that will be produced, W R Grace & Co. and Grace Shalimar (P) Ltd. have come together to create the joint venture business Grace Shalimar (P) Ltd. In 1999 and 2000, the business launched two new products: MELA, an acrylic distemper, and XTRA, a premium 100% exterior finish paint. Both products were made available for purchase.

In the fiscal year 2000–2001, the firm formed a partnership with Creanova, a global market leader in colorants. The following year, in 2001–2002, the company started its color tinting system business under the brand name Color Space.
