Panacea Biotec Limited (PBL), formerly known as Panacea Drug (P) Ltd., was created on February 2, 1984, and is now India's largest research-based health management firm with proven research, production, and marketing capabilities. Highly innovative pain treatment, diabetic management, renal-disease management, anti-osteoporosis, anti-tubercular, gastrointestinal care products, and vaccinations are all part of the product range of India's second-largest vaccine manufacturer.

The firm works with top universities, government labs, and private companies worldwide. PBL has four R&D facilities and ultra-modern, state-of-the-art production facilities in Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, and Delhi for making vaccines and pharmaceutical formulations that meet US-FDA, UK-MHRA, SAMCC, and WHO-cGMP standards. More than 60 countries throughout the globe recognize the Company's 24 product patents. Vaccine manufacturer Radicura Pharma and pharmaceutical formulations manufacturer Panacea Drug P Ltd set up shop in New Delhi in 1988 and 1989, respectively.

Panacea Biotec Ltd. was formed in 1993 due to the combination of Panacea Drugs (P) Ltd and Radicura Pharma. In 1995, the same year PBL established its cutting-edge Drug Delivery R&D center in Lalru; the company went public for the first time. The initial product patents for the firm were filed in 1997 and were granted in several countries. In 2001, PBL's R&D collaborated with a European MNC. The following year, an in-licensing deal was reached between PBL and the Biotechnology Consortium of India to develop and sell an anthrax vaccine.

The same year, 2002, also saw the commissioning of the firm's Recombinant Vaccine manufacturing unit. In 2004, PBL collaborated with Cambridge Bio-stability UK on developing thermostable vaccines and entered into an in-licensing arrangement with the National Institute of Immunology in New Delhi to sell a candidate vaccine against Japanese encephalitis. An in-licensing agreement for HGH was negotiated with the National Institute of Health in the United States after a year, in 2005.

In 2006, a state-of-the-art pharmaceuticals formulation plant compliant with WHO cGMP standards opened in Baddi, Himachal Pradesh. The Inactivated Polio Vaccine (IPV) and many IPV-based combination vaccines will be manufactured and marketed in India and internationally thanks to historical partnerships with the Netherlands Vaccine Institute (The Nederlands Vaccine Institute, NVI).

Manufacturing and distribution of a measles vaccine have been jointly developed with PT.Bio Farma. The business collaborated with the National Research Development Corporation (NRDC) in 2006 to transfer technology for a Foot and Mouth Vaccine. That same year, the center for developing these medicines was opened in New Delhi. In 2007, the firm opened a vaccine formulation plant in Baddi. It has since entered into a research cooperation with Punjab University to create new chemical entities for treating mental health problems. In 2008, PBL entered the healthcare delivery industry by forming a partnership to establish a 220-bed multi-super-specialty hospital in NCR. That same year, the company also obtained a patent (Patent No. 7371412 B2) from the United States Patent and Trademark Office for its product Thank GodTM (Euphorbia Prostrata) in the treatment of hemorrhoids and piles.
