NCC was established in 1988. The NCC's plans have withstood the test of time and are still in compliance with the demands placed on them by the nation's current socioeconomic environment. On August 11, 1978, the 11th Central Advisory Committee (CAC) met and reviewed the necessity of the Corps having a motto. The 12th CAC conference held on October 12, 1980, was when "Unity and Discipline" were officially chosen as the NCC's motto.

The aim of NCC is: To develop a human resource of motivated, organized, and well-trained youth, to offer leadership in all spheres of life, and to always be available to serve the country. To create a setting that will encourage young people to join the armed forces. To cultivate in the nation's youth virtues including character, camaraderie, discipline, leadership, a secular outlook, an adventurous spirit, and the principles of selfless service.

Some of the core values of NCC include: Cadets are encouraged to contribute to the advancement of the country out of a sense of patriotic duty. To foster a sense of national unity and social cohesion, respect for diversity in religion, language, culture, ethnicity, lifestyle, and habitat is essential. Persistent dedication to understanding and upholding the standards and principles established in the Indian Constitution. Realizing the need of using authority fairly and impartially. The capacity to take part in social programs and community development. A good way of life free from substance addiction and other bad habits.
