Regarding volume, MOIL Limited is the only company in India producing and selling more than one manganese ore. The company mines manganese ore of varying quality. There is also the creation of manganese dioxide and manganese ore suitable for use in chemistry. They have mines in the central Indian states of Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh, both of which have excellent transportation networks. Exploration and development (E&D) efforts are underway to expand the company's proven manganese ore reserves. Currently, the firm runs three opencast mines (Dongri Buzurg, Sitapatore/ Sukli, and Tirodi) and seven underground mines (Kandri Munsar, Beldongri Gurgaon, Chikla, Balaghat, and Ukwa).

The Nagda Hills and Rated Hills wind farms, located in Madhya Pradesh close to Dewas, have a combined capacity of 20 MW.

MOIL Ltd, or Manganese Ore (India) Ltd., is a Public Limited Company that began operations in India on June 22, 1962. Mining leases for manganese ore over the Nagpur Dongri Buzurg and other regions, as well as consumable stockpiles and other permanent assets, were transferred from CPMO to the Company by an agreement between the Government of India and CPMO. In 1997, CPMO gave India's government their share of the corporation, making it wholly controlled by the Indian government. Also, CPMO has handed the Belapur-Hamesha mine's Heavy Media Separation Plant and several spare parts and supplies to the firm.

The Dongri Buzurg mine was the location of the Company's Electrolytic Manganese Dioxide Plant, which was built in 1991. In 1998, a High Carbon Ferro Manganese facility with an annual production rate of 10,000 metric tons per hour (TPA) was built at the Balaghat mine. It was in 2001 that the Dongri Buzurg mine got its own integrated Manganese Beneficiation Plant. The firm activated a 4.8 MW wind farm in 2006. They installed a 0.5 million TPA-integrated Manganese Beneficiation Plant in the Balaghat mines in 2007.

The second wind farm, with a generating capacity of 15.2 MW, was put into operation in 2008. Mini-Ratna Category-I recognition was awarded to the firm in 2008. In addition, a 50/50 joint venture business, SAIL and MOIL Ferro Alloys Pvt Ltd, were established to produce Ferro alloys in Bhilai, Chattisgarh. In addition, in 2009, they formed RINMOIL Ferro Alloys Pvt Ltd, a 50:50 joint venture business with Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Ltd (RINL) to produce ferro alloys in Vizag, Andhra Pradesh. Founded as Manganese Ore (India) Ltd on August 17, 2010, it changed its name to MOIL Ltd on September 1, 2011. The firm made its IPO debut in 2010–11 when it was also listed on the National Stock Exchange and the Bombay Stock Exchange.

The IPO was 56 times oversubscribed, indicating a tremendous demand from individual and institutional investors. The Indian government's Ministry of Mines has just notified MOIL to begin mineral exploration nationwide in the 2014–15 fiscal year. That means there are prospects for MOIL to grow its operations there.
