As a subsidiary of the multinational conglomerate Linde Plc, the Indian subsidiary, Linde India Limited, is a market leader in India's industrial gases and engineering sectors, generating $31 billion in revenue in 2017. In addition to building cryogenic and non-cryogenic air separation systems, the firm also produces industrial and medicinal gases. In keeping with the corporate structure of the Linde Plc Group, the company operates in two main divisions: Gases and Related Products and Project Engineering. They now run 33 factories and gas stations throughout India, including the most extensive air separation facility in the nation in Jamshedpur. The Indian Oxygen and Acetylene Company, now known as Linde India Ltd, was founded on January 24, 1935.

BOC Group UK formed the firm as a limited liability corporation. In January 1958, the corporation went through becoming a public limited company. Indian Oxygen Ltd was the company's name from 1989 till it was renamed BOC India Ltd in February 1995. The Jamshedpur factory, located in the Indian state of Jharkhand, was officially opened for business on September 1st, 1998. The firm formed a strategic partnership with Bharat Petroleum Corporation (BPCL) in February 2001 to distribute LPG (LPG). The Contracts Division of the firm has built and implemented a prototype Helium recovery Plant at Bakreshwar in West Bengal, where it can be extracted from geothermal springs. Tata Steel's 225 tpd Air Separation Unit at Jamshedpur was put into operation on August 1, 2003. Both the National Aerospace Laboratory's compressed air facilities and the 2x55 TPD Vaccum Pressure Swing Adsorption units for Kochi Refineries were commissioned in 2004–2005. August 2004 saw the opening of a state-of-the-art compression plant in Bangalore, Karnataka. The firm began providing gaseous oxygen and nitrogen to Jindal Vijaynagar Steel Limited (JVSL) under a 15-year supply contract starting in November 2004. In February 2005, a new liquid compression unit was activated at the Taloja Special Gases facility. The firm opened a brand-new, cutting-edge 65 tpd Air Separation Unit at Medak, close to Hyderabad, in March 2006.

The firm and JSW Steel Ltd. agreed to a long-term gas supply deal in June 2006, requiring the company to provide JSW Steel Ltd. with more than 3,000 metric tons per day of oxygen, nitrogen, and argon gas. JSW Steel is installing an Air Separation Unit at its Bellary, Karnataka, steelworks to achieve this goal. The factory will also manufacture liquid items to fulfil the rising demand from consumers in Southern India. According to a plan of arrangement granted by UK courts in September 2006, Linde AG acquired control of The BOC Group plc UK, the holding company. The firm is now building an on-site nitrogen generator at its Pimpri Works to fulfil a contract they signed with GKN Sinter Metals Ltd in August 2007 to deliver 420 Nm3 of nitrogen per hour to their Works at Pimpri Pune. They also have an oxygen generator installed at their Khardah Works in Kolkata after signing a deal with Electrosteel Castings Ltd to deliver 35 tons of oxygen per day to the facility. The company's Project Engineering Division was awarded two contracts from Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) totalling Rs 318 crore in October 2007 for the installation of Air Separation Units at SAIL's Rourkela Steel Plant and IISCO Steel Plant.
