Since its inception in 1989, India Glycols Ltd has been the pioneer in producing Ethylene Oxide (EO) and Mono Ethylene Glycol (MEG) using a renewable agro-route derived from molasses. More than a thousand different industries, including the Textile, Agrochemical, Oil & Gas, Personal Care, and Pharmaceutical sectors, are among the firm's clientele. Fluids are used in braking, washing, polymerization, painting, etc. Vam Organics backed the startup India Glycols (IGL), which produces 20,000 metric tons per year (TPA) of mono ethylene glycol (MEG) in Kashipur, Uttar Pradesh. Ethylene oxide (EO) is one of the intermediate products, along with diethylene glycol (DEG) and triethylene glycol (TEG).

Delhi's Bhartia family first formed their firm as UP Glycols, a public limited company, but in September 1986, they officially changed the company's name to India Glycols. The factory is at Kashipur, Uttranchal. One of the company's subsidiaries is called IGL Finance Ltd. A further subsidiary, CDL International ltd, is to be merged with the corporation under Court rulings.

Since Scientific Design Company in the United States had the necessary expertise to transform ethanol into MEG, the two businesses formed a strategic alliance. In addition, in 1995–1996, it created a partnership with Japan's Sanyo Chemical Industries Ltd. to get access to cutting-edge technology in the area of Industrial Surfactants, which it plans to use to expand into new markets.

In February of 1995, the company's new Rs.40-million facility for producing ethylene oxide condensates and derivatives began commercial production. The company has established and registered as a 100% Export Oriented Unit to make Guar Gum Powder and its derivatives. In September 1997, the business and Sanyo Chemical Industries Ltd formally launched their specialized joint surfactants project. CDS International Ltd was established as a wholly owned subsidiary in the 2000s.

Production for the new capacity at EO/MEG began in 2001–02, once the expansion project was finished.

The firm activated its new, higher MEG capacity in February 2005. To meet the increased demand for MEG, the firm devised a plan to create RAB (concentrated sugarcane Juice) for the ethanol production process. By December 2005, we expect to have the unit wholly assembled and operational.

The scheme of amalgamation of M/s. CDS International Limited (100% subsidiary of India Glycols Limited) with India Glycols Limited was approved by the Hon'ble High Court of Uttaranchal by order dated July 15, 2004, and the Hon'ble High Court of Karnataka by order dated September 12, 2005, as amended on January 30, 2006.

On February 1, 2006, manufacturing of RAB began at the company's newly constructed factory during the 2005–2006 fiscal year. In January of 2006, production started at the new industrial gases facility, which has Oxygen, Nitrogen, and Argon capacities of 10400 NM3/Hr, 2828 NM3/Hr, and 232 NM3/Hr, respectively. In Gorakhpur, Eastern UP, a brand-new distillery factory has been built, with an annual output of 66,000 KBL. The plant went live in March 2006.
