Established in Maharashtra, India, on January 13, 1984, HAIL was originally named Tata Process Controls Private Ltd. In May of 1987, the company went public and received its official corporate name. The Tata Group first helped the company get off the ground. Later, it was raised to a 40:40 JV between the Tata Group and Honeywell Asia Pacific Inc. of the United States. For the benefit of its foreign joint venture partner, the Tata Group divested itself 40.62 percent of its shares in 2004. Honeywell Asia Pacific Inc owns 81.24 percent of the company's equity.

Honeywell has been operating out of the industrial city of Pune since 1988, when it established its remarkable 36,000 square feet of state-of-the-art manufacturing design and engineering facilities there. It has an intelligent technology center, printed wiring assembly production facilities, and system integration services testing facilities. The business issued 2,080,000 equity shares at a premium of Rs. 25 per share in March 1993, for a total of Rs. 7.28 crores, to help fund some of its regular capital expenditure and long-term working capital needs.

This company has been fully certified from the initial concept to the final product, including all manufacturing, installation, and maintenance processes. The business now includes several different divisions. It is also well-established in the city of Pune, where it has built up a Software Technology Park (STP). The STP activities in Chennai were enlarged from 1998–1999. The DRDO, India's foremost military research institution, approved the Company's GPS Manufacturing in 2003.

HAIL also has the distinction of being India's first automation firm to be certified to both ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001. It's evidence of the company's dedication to providing excellent service. Honeywell opted to add 300 more jobs to its current factory in 2003–2004. It has begun constructing an addition to the existing structure. This structure will be a cutting-edge facility for testing the Experion (new control system).

In 2005, Honeywell finished constructing a new facility, which now houses 425 employees and the company's test facilities. A new Electronic Hardware Technology Park (EHTP) has been established by the firm to aid in producing and exporting electronic systems. Honeywell Security Group (HSG) was founded in 2005 to distribute the company's electronic security products and services via a distributor network.
