Himadri Group's crown jewel is Himadri Speciality Chemical Ltd, previously known as Himadri Chemicals & Industries Ltd. On July 28, 1987, the Company was formally established as a limited liability company. Its main business is producing carbon materials and chemicals. It operates in India and serves customers both there and throughout the world.

It has a wholly-owned subsidiary in India in the name of Equal Commodeal Private Limited, a step-down wholly-owned subsidiary in the name of AAT Global Limited incorporated in Hong Kong, and another step-down subsidiary with 94% shareholding in the name of Shandong Dawn Himadri Chemical Industry Limited incorporated in China.

The company's founding vision was to create, produce, and distribute chemical goods, focusing on coal tar and its derivatives. Nalco Balco Hindalco HEG Graphite India, Dubal AOG Graftech, and SGL are just a few of the companies they provide with coal tar pitches. The firm has five state-of-the-art coal tar distillation units in India. Two of the company's factories are in Howrah, West Bengal, while the others are in Hooghly, Visakhapatnam, and Korba, Chhattisgarh. The firm went public in the United Kingdom in November 1991.

The business finished the expansion and upgrading of its Howrah and Visakhapatnam facilities in 1997, and in 1996 it invented a method for making an impregnating pitch. In 1999 the corporation constructed the third state of art coal tar distillation facility at Howrah. Coal tar-based pipe coating product production began in Visakhapatnam in 2001, when the company established a corrosion prevention section. In 2002, they began selling liquid pitches delivered to customers in specially designed tankers.

The company's current capacity is 120000 MT of Coal Tar Pitch per year, and in 2003 they opened their fourth modernized coal tar distillation facility in Hooghly. The firm set up a by-product facility in Hooghly to make high-value goods in 2005–06. In addition, they set up a small pilot facility to produce improved carbon material for use in lithium-ion batteries using their proprietary technology.

Coal tar pitch output at Hooghly was ramped up from 287 thousand metric tons per year (MTPA) to 63 thousand MTPA due to the company's expansion. Dubai Aluminium Co. produces the world's purest aluminum, and the firm has begun supplying them with coal tar pitches.

Moreover, they launched a Chinese branch. In 2006–07, the business established a 100%-owned subsidiary in Hong Kong to better manage its local presence and ease its acquisition plan. As a test run, they established a facility in Korba, Chhattisgarh. In the Dhule area of Maharashtra, they put into operation two windmills with a combined capacity of 2.50 MW.

The first stage of the company's development to increase the production of naphthalene was finished in the same year at Mahistikry, West Bengal. Additionally, a granulation machine was set up to turn coal tar pitch, which can reach temperatures of over 300 degrees Celsius, into a solid pencil by exposing it to air pressure. The Hooghly facility's coal tar distillation capacity was increased from 91,000 metric tons per year (MTPA) to 175,000 MTPA.

To speed up just-in-time supply to its largest clients, the business 2007-2008 began operating its melting factory in Korba. For the production of carbon black, the firm has launched a project in Mahistikry, West Bengal, with an annual capacity of 50,000 metric tons (MT), as well as a captive power plant with a 12-megawatt (MW) capacity based on waste heat gas via forward integration.
