A diversification program to manufacture 2,000 MTPA of sodium cyanide started in December 1982. The second phase of the caustic soda plant's development, which brought its output to 103.425 MTPA, was formed in 1984.

The business has also started working on a diversification project to produce 10560 MTPA of chloromethanes from its chlorine byproduct. In 1989, GACL switched from using Mercury Cell Technology to using more eco-friendly and efficient Membrane Technology. It was in March 1994 that the complex's last reliance on mercury in the manufacturing of caustic soda was ended when the second mercury cell was converted to a membrane cell.

Since 1996, when the business decided to put the hydrogen gas it generated as a byproduct of its caustic soda production to good use, it has operated a plant in Vadodara, India, where it produces 11000 MTA of hydrogen peroxide.

In 1995, the business established a facility in Dahej with a capacity of 26400 MTA to produce technical-grade phosphoric acid as part of a diversification program and to suit the rising demand for its goods in Gujarat and neighbouring regions. The business installed a membrane cell caustic-chlorine facility at Dahej with a 100,000 MTA capacity in 1998.

Also, they built a captive 90 MW co-generation power plant to guarantee reliable, cheap electricity for their in-house operations.
