Gayatri Projects Ltd. is quickly becoming one of India's leading construction firms. On September 15, 1989, Gayatri Projects Ltd. was established in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh under the name Andhra Coastal Construction Pvt Ltd. As its name suggests, the organization was founded to take on building projects. On April 1, 1994, the business acquired Gayatri Engineering Company, a partnership firm founded in 1975 as "Special Class Contractors," on a continuing concern basis, including all of its assets. With effect from March 31, 1994, the company's name is now Gayatri Projects Pvt Ltd. To reflect its new status as a public limited company, Gayatri Projects Ltd. changed its name on December 2, 1994.

Company shares were invested in by Videocon Appliances Limited and Videocon International Limited in the fiscal year 1994–1995. Despite the harsh circumstances, they finished the ADB-funded Kakinada Port Project's 'S' Bund and Platforms in 1996–1997. In a record-setting eight months, they could fill 50.00 lakh cu m at the Reliance Petroleum Ltd Project in Jamnagar. Together with IJM Corporation Berhad of Malaysia in 1997–98, the business won several major contracts for highway construction in Andhra Pradesh.

In 2001–02, the firm filed a 135-meter-deep chasm with 65 million cubic meters of dirt to extend and improve the runway at Calicut Airport. The 120-meter-wide Narmada Main Canal in Gujarat is now complete, making it the largest canal in Asia.

This 270 MLD water treatment plant was built at T.K.Halli, Bangalore, in 2002–03. In 2005–2006, Amercian Quality Assurance International, LLC, USA, presented the firm with the ISO 9001:2000 and Q9001-2000 Quality Certificates. In 2006-07, NHAI in Uttar Pradesh granted the business a joint venture consisting of the two partners two contracts on a BOT annuity basis. They won a new business of around Rs 85500 million and completed projects worth about Rs 50212 million. The company has an 83% stake in the two SPVs it created, Gayatri Jhansi Roadways Ltd and Gayatri Lalitpur Roadways Ltd, while IDFC and others own the remaining 17%. These SPVs will be responsible for the design, construction, development, financing, operation, and maintenance of the road connecting Jhansi and Lalitpur in the Indian state of UP. Since October 17, 2006, the company's stock has been traded on the Mumbai Stock Exchange.

The firm won a new business of Rs 175,010,000,000 in 2007-2008. In the State of Andhra Pradesh, they were awarded contracts for the design, building, development, financing, operation, and maintenance of the ORR between Bongulur and Tukkuguda - AP-4, with an estimated Project cost of Rs 36,200 lakh. Orissa's Naranpur-Pandapada-Harichandanpur-Brahmanipal-Duburi Road has been awarded to the Gayatri-RNS joint venture for an upgrading project with an estimated cost of Rs 31,189 lakh.
