Galaxy Surfactants Private Limited was established on May 20, 1986, in Mumbai, Maharashtra, under the Companies Act 1956, as a private limited company. A special resolution was then passed by the shareholders on January 24, 1995, converting the company into a public company; the name was changed to "Galaxy Surfactants Limited"; and on March 13, 1995, a "Fresh Certificate of Incorporation" was issued by the Registrar of Companies, Maharashtra at Mumbai.

The firm is an important player in the Indian market for Personal and Home Care ("PHC") surfactants and specialty chemicals. The firm manufactures various useful cosmetic components, such as UV protection, functional goods, and active compounds. Its products are used in various FMCG categories, including skin care, hair care, oral care, body wash, sun care, home cleansers, and fabric care, and are purchased by some of the major worldwide companies in these industries. The firm's founders started small in 1980, selling only two goods. Since then, the company has grown into a global powerhouse, selling thousands of products in dozens of countries.

Products using the Company's ingredients may be found in a wide variety of skin care, oral care, hair care, cosmetic, toiletry, and detergent items aimed squarely at the consumer market. Since its founding in 1986, the company's product offerings, customer base, and geographic reach have all grown substantially. Among the clientele are well-known names globally and domestically in the home and personal care sectors. Its current line includes over 200 product grades sold to over 1700 clients in over 70 countries.

Between 2000 and 2010, Galaxy Surfactants made deliberate preparations to establish a production plant in Egypt. In 2012, the Company opened a third factory in the Jhagadia GIDC in the Indian state of Gujarat. Eleven patents were awarded to Galaxy in fiscal year (FY) 2019–20, including six in India, three in the United States, and two in Brazil. The Company opened its new Mild Surfactants facility in Jhagadia, Gujarat, in 2019–2020.

After moving to a larger facility, the US Plant (TRI-K) expanded its production capabilities and storage space. The research facility was revamped to facilitate the recycling of old machinery and the conduct of concurrent R&D projects. The United States, India, China, and Europe awarded Galaxy a patent in 2020–2021.

In FY'22, the company introduced Laundry Pods as part of the Galaxy Hearthr Mix Pods line of goods. The Jhagadia plant stopped producing goods in January 2022.
