Two of Elecon Engineering Company Ltd's specialties are material handling equipment and power transmission solutions. The company's complex product line is designed, manufactured, and marketed via a widespread network in India and by firms with foreign ownership participation in Singapore, Australia, South Africa, China, and Dubai.

Wagon tipplers, bucket wheel stackers or reclaimers, barrel-type blender reclaimers, fertilizer reclaiming scrapers, limestone pre-homogenizing and blending facilities, etc., are all part of the company's offerings. This organization pioneered manufacturing of high-tech machinery in India for Bulk Material Handling. In 1951, Elecon Engineering Company Ltd. was founded.

As far as I know, this is the first firm in India to mass produce goods handling machinery. The business honed its coal-handling plant design, manufacturing, construction, and commissioning capabilities. They've honed their abilities to plan and carry out turnkey contracts over time. The government approved the firm's decision to diversify into the production of 1,000 hydraulic fluid couplings per year in 1984. In June 1987, the company amalgamated with Elecon (Madras) Ltd, a fully owned subsidiary.

In 1997–1998 the firm formed a new subsidiary to produce geared motors and gear reducers in technical partnership with a Japanese firm. Moreover, they entered into a partnership with a German firm. Production for sale began in March 1999. POSIRED 2 Helical/Bevel Gears were introduced in 1998–1999 thanks to technical assistance from P I V Antrieb Werner Reimers GmbH & Co KG in Germany. During the year, they also debuted Super NU Universal Mounting Worm Gears.

The company established Elecon Singapore Pte Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary, in Singapore in 2000-01 to expand its export market in South East Asian countries, and Elecon Australia Pty Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary, in 2001-02 to expand its export market in Australia.

In 2002–03, the firm and Emitici Engineering Ltd. agreed for the latter to acquire 50% of the equity shares in the company's Singapore and Australian subsidiaries. With this, Elecon Singapore Pte Ltd and Elecon Australia Pty Ltd are no longer wholly-owned subsidiaries.

After receiving an order from Mazgaon Dock Ltd for three chipsets for the Indian Navy's Stealth Frigate, the business, in technical cooperation with RENK Germany, has delivered the first chipset.

The Parli project earned a business order from the Maharashtra State Electricity Board for Rs 58 crores in 2003–2004. In addition, one of the world's leading gear manufacturers placed an order with them to produce a variety of gear components. In 2005–2006, the business signed a Technical Collaboration Agreement with Belgian firm Turbowinds N V to import technology for making electric wind generators.

They also put up AED 300,000 (3 x AED 100,000) in the Dubai Airport Free Trade Zone company Elecon Middle East FZCO by purchasing equity shares. In 2006–07, the firm entered into a technological partnership with the Korean firm Haisung Industrial System Company Ltd to develop and produce lift gears with increased speed and load capacity.

In addition, an agreement for technical cooperation in the design and production of Vertical Roller Mill Gear Boxes was inked with the German firm RENK AG.

With an eye toward diversification, the business established Wind Turbine Generator farms and began producing Wind Turbine Generator Gear Boxes in 2007–08. They installed six wind turbine generators with a total capacity of 600 kilowatts (KW) at their wind farm in Gujarat.
