The commercial activities of DCM Shriram Consolidated Ltd span several industries, including agriculture, plastics, cement, textiles, and power generation and distribution. They have two main lines of business: energy-intensive industries like the chloro-vinyl chain and cement and agricultural industries like urea, sugar, hybrid seeds, and agricultural products. Chloro-Vinyl sugar, Shriram Farm Solutions bioseed fertilizers, and others are part of the Company's diversified product line (Fenesta Cement and Hariyali Kisaan Bazaar). Hyderabad, Vietnam, the Philippines, and Thailand all play a role in the company's hybrid seed activities. Bhiwadi, Bangalore, Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Chennai are all home to the company's window production facilities. These four units' combined power cogeneration capacity is 111 MW, 62 MW of which is available for export. In 1989, DCM Ltd was split into four different firms, and one of them was DCM Shriram Consolidated Ltd. When Shriram Fertilizer & Chemicals, Shriram Cement Works, Seatantra Bharat Mills, and DCM Silk Mills merged to form the new firm, DCM Ltd lost a third of its operations.

The business partnered with the Japanese firm Zeon Kasei Company to produce PVC compounds in 1995–1996. In addition, a Chloralkali facility using cutting-edge membrane cell technology developed by Asahi Chemicals of Japan was recently implemented in Bharuch, Gujarat. The Chlor Alkali plant and the 18 MW DG set-based captive Power plant went online in June 1997. The firm built a state-of-the-art solid hazardous waste plant in Bharuch in 1999-2000.

DCM Shriram International Ltd is a fully owned subsidiary of DCM Shriram Credit and Investments Ltd, itself a subsidiary, which was established in the 2000-01 fiscal year. The firm and Zurich Financial Services (ZFS) launched a joint venture in January 2002 to launch a life insurance business, a non-life insurance business, and associated support services in India. The production capacity of Chlor Alkali was increased to 102050 MT in 2001-02.

The firm put its new PVC resin plant in Kota into service in September 2006.

We invested in the equity shares of Impact Builders Ltd in July 2007 and, after that, formed an owned subsidiary called DCM Shriram Energy and Infrastructure Ltd.

The 108 MW Chhatru Hydro Power Project in Himachal Pradesh was awarded to DCM Shriram Infrastructure Ltd in December 2007. In March of 2008, the company's wholly-owned subsidiary purchased 49% of the joint venture partner's shares.

Thus, they established wholly-owned subsidiaries in the form of Shriram Bio seeds Ltd. on the island of Mauritius, Afee Investments Corp. in the British Virgin Islands, Bioseed Genetics International, Inc. in Panama, and Zeus Investment Ltd.

The majority of Shri Ganpati Fertilizers Ltd. Jaipur's stock was purchased by the firm in May 2008. The acquired firm produces Single Super Phosphate at its plant in Chittorgarh, Rajasthan.

Since March 15, 2013, the operations of the Company's Shriram Polytech division have been handled by Shriram Axiall Private Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Company previously known as Shriram Vinyl Polytech Pvt. Ltd. to create a 50:50 Joint Venture for the Polymer Compounding business conducted by the subsidiary above of the Company, the Company, and M/s.Axiall LLC (a subsidiary of Axiall Corporation USA) entered into the Joint Venture Agreement for Fiscal Year 2013–14. (JV Company).

Effective February 21, 2014, DCM Shriram Consolidated Limited changed its name to DCM Shriram Limited. Through March 31, 2014, the company had repurchased a total of 283,5471 shares for Rs. 2/- apiece, of which 266,909 had been extinguished. The Company increased its footprint in Western and Southern India during FY 2015 and has plans to do so again during FY 2016.

As of the end of FY 2017, the Company has invested a total of Rs. 700 Crores in its Chlor-Alkali (incl. captive power) at Bharuch and Power Cogeneration at Sugar operations, both of which increased their respective capacities.
