BSL was initially known as the Bhartiya Udyog Sangh and was established on October 24, 1970. S. M. Sureka was the one who pushed the organization before Jhunjhunwala took control of it in 1971. It also produces polyester-viscose, polyester-woolen, and 100% woolen textiles, as well as worsted yarn, polyester-wool mixed yarn, and 100% wool yarn. BSL Suitings is the brand name under which the company sells its wares. It maintains a vast network of area-specific agents, wholesale dealers, and retail outlets nationwide.

In October 1992, the business conducted rights offering to bolster its stock basis and increase the amount of operating cash it had available. In 1994, the company received recognition from BIS through the ISO-9002 accreditation.

The firm began an expansion initiative in its weaving section during the 1995-1996 academic year by installing 44 Sulzer weaving machines as part of the plan. The first 16 weaving machines have been installed, and the remaining 28 machines are now in the process of being assembled. The firm has launched a 100% employee-owned enterprise (EOU) called BSL Wulfing, which will manufacture woolen and worsted textiles in conjunction with Wulfing Tuchfabrik GmbH of Germany.

The Prime Minister of India presented the company with the National Export Award in recognition of the 100 percent increase in the export of woolen and worsted blended fabrics. In addition, the Company's Worsted Spinning Division expanded its capacity by 1920 spindles, bringing the total number of available spindles to 7904.

During the 2000-2001 school year, the business participated in the Technology Upgrading Fund Scheme to modernize its operations.

The firm upgraded its 16 existing PU-85 Sulzer weaving machines to newer, more advanced G-6300 Sulzer Rapier Weaving Machines on September 28th, 2000, and began commercial production on these looms the following day.
