One of India's rapidly expanding engineering firms, BGR Energy Systems Ltd, specializes in the generation, transmission, and distribution of electrical power. Supply of systems and Equipment, as well as Turnkey Engineering project contracting, are the two main pillars of the company's operations. Systems and equipment for the power, oil and gas, refinery, petrochemical, and process industries are designed, engineered, manufactured, sold, and serviced by the firm. The company designs, manufactures, procures, constructs, and commissions Turnkey Engineering projects for the Power and Oil & Gas industries.

There are seven divisions inside the corporation, and they all work together. Businesses in these categories include Power Projects, Oil & Gas Equipment, Environmental Engineering, Electrical Projects, and Infrastructure. On February 18, 1985, GEA Energie Systems India Pvt Ltd. was officially established. Jointly owned by GEA Energietechnik GmbH of Germany and B G Raghupathy of India, the firm manufactured and sold online condenser tube cleaning systems, debris filters, and rubber cleaning balls for use in thermal and nuclear power plants. The firm became known as GEA Energy System (India) Pvt Ltd in October 1986.

A public limited company was established in December 1993 after GEA Germany sold its shares in March 1993, making B G Raghupathy and his family its only owners. The firm has collaborated with GEA but France on air-cooled heat exchangers since 1994 and with GEA Germany on establishing GEA Cooling Tower Technologies (India) Pvt Ltd. in 1996. The firm and Crane Environment Inc. of the United States of America signed a technological partnership agreement in September of 2000.

The company's first EPC contract was for a 120 MW gas-based combined cycle power station in Karupput, Tamil Nadu, and it provided a debris filter to a nuclear power plant in Taiwan in June of the same year. BGR Energy Systems Ltd. became the official corporate name in June 2007. Beginning on July 1, 2007, the company's energy division was sold to GEA BGR Energy System India Ltd for Rs 25 crore.

Following the completion of the Share Transfer Agreement between the Company and Schmitz India Pvt Ltd. on July 1, 2007, the Company's wholly owned overseas subsidiary in Germany, Schmitz Reinigungskugeln GmbH, ceased to be a subsidiary of the Company with effect from July 1, 2007. The 330 MW RRVUNL Dholpur project's Balance of Plant contract was finalized, and the project was commissioned in both Open Cycle and Combined Cycle modes throughout the year. Both the EPC contract for TNEB's 95 MW Combined Cycle plant and the Sterlite group's 23 MW captive power project have made significant progress toward completion. The production facilities of the Air Fin Cooler Division have been expanding at Panjetty Village, close to Chennai.

In addition, preparations have been made to establish a brand-new branch in Bahrain. Regulatory permits and land allocations from the Government of Bahrain have been secured. The anticipated year of completion for these projects is 2009. For the 500 MW, Kothagudem Stage-VI (1 x 500 MW)-Unit XI, the company won a Turnkey contract from Andhra Pradesh Power Generation Ltd in February 2008, worth Rs 7930 million. This contract covers the design, engineering, procurement, supply, delivery, testing at the manufacturer's works, transportation to the site, storage, construction, erection, testing at the site, and commissioning of the entire plant, civil works and all.

State Business for Oil Projects (SCOP) in Baghdad, Iraq, granted the company a USD 9.29 million contract in June 2008 to have Design Engineering manufacture and deliver 70 Nos of Oil Products Storage Tanks for the new Aumara Oil Products Depot.
